Wednesday Review: Common Bond

Common Bond is a super cute pastry/cafe place with tons of charm and delicious eats. They just opened last week and I heard the lines were very long but if you go when we did (late breakfast on a weekday) you shouldn't have to worry about lines.

Everything there looked delicious. Our two pastries were flaky, sweet, and extremely satisfying. They also had a great coffee bar that serves a wonderful vanilla latte! We only ate pastries but many lunch plates passed us by and I almost had to order one myself!

I will definitely be making my way back there soon and I recommend you do too :)

Happy Memorial Day!

I must admit, this weekend I was being a bit of a butt about Memorial Day. I see it as people causing so much traffic for a holiday that they only care about because they get a day off of work. But after spending the day on my dad's boat, and they cooked us the most amazing food, I think I understand why people love traveling on this weekend.

The weather is beautiful, you get to spend time with family, and you get to eat some great food.

We definitely did eat great food. Salmon so fresh and twice baked potatoes that you could eat two of! I really had to limit myself on how many pictures of the salmon to share with you guys - I took tons. Sharing this great food with great company made this weekend perfect.

Let me just say, this weekend wasn't set up for Memorial Day on Monday but it just so happened that we got to spend this weekend together. Times like these are my favorite and I guess if people use Memorial Day as an excuse to make these memories then that's OK in my book!

Bingo in the Heights!

This past week a group of friends and I (Amanda) decided to go to Bingo in the Heights. I know, I know...bingo? Isn't bingo for old people? All I have to say is, go to Bingo in the Heights one Thursday...I promise you won't be disappointed.

Bingo in the Heights takes all of your previous bingo thoughts and changes them. The atmosphere is incredible! There are some  really cool old people but there are a ton of young people. The thing that makes Bingo in the Heights such a hot spot in Houston is that it's B.Y.O.A. (Bring Your Own Alcohol). You can bring bottles of whatever liquor you want! You can even bring in any food that you want! The only things you can't bring in are: Beer, Wine Coolers, Mixers, Coolers, and basically any other beverage besides liquor or wine. But the good news is, you can buy beer, wine coolers, and mixers there! And they're actually pretty cheap!

Everything at SPJST Lodge 88 (the name of the hall) is relatively cheap, which is usually a problem for me because I KEEP BUYING. The price of a bingo pad that has all 10 games is only $5! WHAT A STEAL! The extra games, such as early bird or bonanza, are each $1! INCREDIBLE! Did you forget your bingo daubers at home? No problem, they're only $1! WOW! Are you in the mood for beer? A pitcher is only $6-7! The wine coolers and extra snacks are no more than $3! Great prices for a great time!

Bingo in the Heights is run by an older group, but they are so incredibly cute and sweet! For instance, this past Thursday something was wrong with the electricity and this is (almost) exactly what the lady said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, something seems to be wrong with the electricity and we might have to cancel bingo and shut off the lights...if that happens we can all just have a party here!" It goes without saying that if bingo did get shut down that they would have refunded everyone!

The cash prizes range from $110 to $600 (that's the biggest/last prize they give out). I was one away from winning a $140 prize and my friend was one away from winning the big $600! This is what keeps us coming for more! It's honestly so addicting!

There are some (unspoken) rules at this Bingo hall:
  1. When someone calls out bingo, and it's not you...you have to BOOOOOOO them! (no, seriously, everyone does it!)
  2. When the bingo caller calls out "O 69," everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) has to "WOOO!"
  3. If you're going with a big group, get there early!
If you're interested in going to Bingo in the Heights, don't be afraid to comment! I'd love to go with anyone! Also, if you do want to go and you have a huge party I recommend you get there a little early. Bingo in the Heights is EVERY THURSDAY  and doors open at 5:15 and the early bird games start from 6:45 - 7, with the actual game starting at like 7:30. I got to the bingo hall at 4:50 and there was already a line...I'm telling y'all, people are serious about this bingo!

Friday Eats: Good Dog Houston

Roger and I made our way to Good Dog Houston for the first time this week. He always has a huge lists of "Bookmarked" restaurants on his Yelp (by the way, do you use Yelp? Some people still don't and, to me, that is crazy - get on it!) so he can easily recommend new places to try.

To be honest, I am not a big fan of hotdogs but for some reason I had been seriously craving them the day before so I was excited when he asked about this place. It is a cute little house in the Heights with cute decor. The atmosphere is always a big deal for me and this one was grade A. I was happy that they had tons of space outside so we could eat while the sun goes down :)

The second I noticed they offered a Lavender Lemonade Fizz I was in love with the place. Lavender has been my go to in any drink lately and this didn't disappoint. Roger had to order the Cajeta and Cahin Milkshake because it is a combination of Vietnamese iced coffee and the caramelly stuff that comes in some Mexican cookies. This, too, was delicious but a little over blended - the consistency was not good.

As far as the food goes, Roger had the Ol'Zapata Dog with fries and I had the Guac-A-Dog with fries. You can definitely share the fries and even a hot dog. As you can imagine, we were overwhelmed hah! Both hotdogs were great - the bread was amazing (and I am not one for bread). Everything tasted fresh and I really liked the actual meat (and if you don't eat meat you could get tofu!) Overall, the atmosphere and the food were both wonderful, I would definitely give it another shot - hopefully next time they won't over blend the milkshake though!
